A box with a perforated membrane of wooden panels has been thrust into the existing pace of the one-time tannery. The wooden skin, in the form of a spatial meander, is offset several centimeters from the old wall, the edge of it illuminated. Thus parts of the exhisting wall of brick and the ribbed reinforced concrete ceiling remain visible and the line of contact between the old and the new is constantly emphasised. In the centre of the space the old cast iron columns are retained, their juncture with the ceiling being brought out by the wooden sking being cut open. The clear and reduced forms constantly heighten the elementary strength of the space, borne by the  contrast of rustic and modern traditional and industrial, soft and hard. A real site for an urban public.
